The U.S. Supreme Court this week agreed to hear a case about veterans getting the “benefit of the doubt” from the Department of Veterans Affairs as they seek benefits for service-connected disabilities.

The case Bufkin v. McDonough involves an appeal from two veterans saying the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has been disregarding a more-than-century-old rule giving veterans the “benefit of the doubt on any close issue relating to their eligibility for service-related benefits.”
