SAN FRANCISCO — There’s been plenty of spectacle as a much anticipated gender-bias trial against venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers opened this past week in San Francisco Superior Court.

Already jurors have been confronted with the unvarnished emails of Kleiner Perkins insiders, accounts of an office affair and testimony related to one male partner’s unwelcome late night visit to a female colleague’s hotel room wearing only his bathrobe.
