Pope Week: Law firms and courts in Washington are bracing for Pope Francis’ arrival this week. Most courts and at least one firm have already decided to close for a day, the National Law Journal reports, while other firms are taking a wait-and-see approach.
Judges accused: A class action filed last week in New Orleans accuses judges and court officials of running an “illegal scheme” to squeeze payments out of poor people and send those who cannot pay to jail indefinitely. The New York Times reports on the lawsuit filed by Equal Justice Under Law, which brought a similar case earlier in the year in Ferguson, Missouri.
