Back to business: As the U.S. Supreme Court returns from the summer recess, the NLJ’s Marcia Coyle and Tony Mauro take a look at some of the big cases coming up, and they talk to high court watchers about what to expect. After last year’s blockbuster wins for the left on same-sex marriage and health care, experts predict the right to prevail in the majority of hotly contested cases.
Meanwhile, five justices attended the annual Roman Catholic “Red Mass” over the weekend at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, which is always held right before the court returns for arguments. Tony Mauro reports that an archbishop “urged civic leaders to protect religious freedom and to embrace diversity and immigration.”
