Chicago: The U.S. Department of Justice will launch a civil rights investigation into the Chicago Police Department and the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of teenager Laquan McDonald, reports the Chicago Tribune. Video of the shooting conflicts with police reports from the scene, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

No deal: Facing continued opposition from the Justice Department, Electrolux and General Electric called off a $3.3 billion deal to sell GE’s appliance division, reports the New York Times. A trial before U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington began in early November.
