Oscars: Last night’s big winners at the Academy Awards had ties to the legal community. Michael Punke, the author of the novel “The Revenant” that inspired the film, is a lawyer by training. He’s also the deputy United States Trade Representative and the United States ambassador to the World Trade Organization, which meant he wasn’t able to lobby for the film during awards season, notes the New York Times.

And Best Picture winner “Spotlight,” the story of the Boston Globe team that investigated sexual abuse of children within the Catholic Church, is also about the lawyers who represented victims. Above the Law had this review of the movie.
