The evolution of the legal profession, particularly over the past 10 years, has been remarkable to watch. In some respects it’s maddening in its slow pace of change, in others it’s amazing to look back and see how different things have become.

The Am Law 100 results give us at The American Lawyer and ALM Intelligence a chance to marry the trends we report on so closely all year with what the data shows. And this year, like the more than 30 years before it that we’ve been collecting financial data on law firms, there are surprises in the data, affirmations of trends, and hints of what is to come.
