Continuing a string of recent assignments as debtor’s counsel for energy industry clients, Kirkland & Ellis snagged two more lead roles this week for Houston-based Ultra Petroleum Corp. and Tulsa-based Midstates Petroleum Co. Inc.

Ultra and Midstates filed separate Chapter 11 petitions in U.S. bankruptcy court in Houston, with both companies tapping Kirkland restructuring partner James Sprayregen, as well as local counsel Patricia Tomasco and Matthew Cavenaugh of Jackson Walker. Ultra’s legal team also includes Kirkland partners David Seligman and Michael Slade, while Midstates, in addition to Sprayregen, has turned to Kirkland partners Edward Sassower and William Guerrieri.
