Playa Hotels & Resorts, an owner and operator of all-inclusive resorts such as Hyatt, Hilton and Jewel Resorts, announced on Tuesday that an attorney already working in-house is its new top lawyer.

The luxury hotel owner and operator named Matthew S. Cohen, who previously worked in Playa’s legal department as corporate and securities counsel, as its executive vice president and general counsel. He is based in Playa’s offices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and reports directly to the company’s CEO, Bruce Wardinski. He will be responsible for leading Playa’s legal affairs, which include mergers and acquisitions, financing activities, securities law compliance, legal risk management and business practices.
