Six former GoldPoint Partners executives who abruptly quit the private equity affiliate of New York Life Insurance Co. two years ago are launching a new investment firm and hiring away GoldPoint’s general counsel to be its legal chief.

The new firm, Dextra Partners, announced Monday that Lorne Smith, had ended his 17-year career with New York Life and will serve as general counsel and chief compliance officer of New York City-based Dextra.
