In a further crackdown on what it dubs ”dark patterns” marketing, the Federal Trade Commission is taking aim at Amazon, accusing the e-commerce giant in a federal lawsuit of “tricking” customers into signing up for Prime and then thwarting their efforts to cancel the automatically renewing service.

The heavily redacted lawsuit filed in Washington federal court Wednesday accuses Amazon of manipulating customers into enrolling in a $139 Prime membership during checkout, then knowingly complicating the cancellation process.
