Swarovski, the Austrian-based purveyor of crystal, jewelry and watches, has named Stephan Mechnig as chief legal and compliance officer, effective Oct. 1.

The appointment is the latest step in the nearly 130-year-old’s company’s evolution from a family-managed business to a family-owned one. A year ago, Swarovski  named former McKinsey & Co. executive Alexis Nasard as CEO, the first non-family executive to hold the post since its 1895 founding.
