The tragic murder of Yale graduate student Annie Le, and its designation by the New Haven police as an act of “workplace violence,” are stark reminders that workplace violence can occur in any employment setting.

Employers have a legal duty to provide a safe workplace for employees. In an effort to reduce risk and prevent undesirable occurrences, employers need to have policies and practices in place to increase the awareness and reporting of actual or potential incidents of workplace violence.
