Now that Nora Dannehy has been confirmed by the legislature as a Connecticut Supreme Court Justice, we have (gasp!) three justices who never were trial judges or indeed judges on any court.

We heard some grumbling on this point when Gov. Ned Lamont nominated her and his previous unsuccessful candidate, Sandra Glover, and when Gov. Dannel Malloy nominated current justices Gregory D’Auria and Andrew McDonald. Of course it is a good idea to have some justices with prior experience on the trial court. But we always have had some, and the idea that lack of such experience is a negative factor is wrong.
