Facing an ethics probe into an undisclosed salary from a developer, City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and his side jobs are facing scrutiny. While the mayor didn’t earn these fees through his gig as counsel at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, the attention could ultimately cast a shadow on the real estate work he does do for firm clients.

The mayor’s side job at the Los Angeles-headquartered litigation powerhouse was widely known before the Miami Herald revealed the $170,000 worth of payments from developer Rishi Kapoor, who sought  help from the mayor with a $70 million project in his jurisdiction. But Suarez is just one example of the many Florida politicians holding jobs at law firms while in office.
