The Broward State Attorney’s Office has increased the starting salary for new assistant state attorneys to $68,000, plus benefits—a move that has caught the eye of Ana Bierman, the Florida International University College of Law assistant dean in charge of planning and placement.

“Many applicants don’t realize that the state attorney has an excellent benefits package,” Bierman said. “The whole compensation package is certainly well within the range of a well-compensated private sector job—if you look at it in terms of a whole package. The prosecutors and the public defenders in the tri-county area have been lobbying the legislature for this for a while.”
