A year ago I shot baskets. As often as I could, I’d go to the hoop on our street, turn my phone to a rock music channel and dribble, toss up bricks, grab rebounds and eventually score.

That was my first COVID-19 coping strategy, where I went after I fretted over online school for the kids, wondered about disinfecting groceries and pondered how many years we’d wait till a vaccine could stop the scourge.
