Whatever your plans are for your first three months of retirement, they probably won’t be as ambitious as what Michael Kenny accomplished early last year. Kenny retired as a litigation partner at Alston & Bird in Atlanta at the end of 2020, though even now he’s still tying up some loose ends of cases.

From Jan. 1 to March 28, 2021, the Atlanta resident managed to bang out the first draft of his debut novel “Life’s Illusions,” oftentimes working eight-to-10 hour days. Kenny’s subject matter (like his retirement schedule) didn’t stray too far from his professional life. His protagonist, Jonathan Kent, is a Big Law trial lawyer who handles a string of high-profile trials. You’ll not find any spoilers on the fictional trial vignettes Kenny includes in the book here, just a link to the book’s Amazon page.
