Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Brian Rickman stepped down from the role of appellate court chief judge when his term ended in June. Rickman has since resumed his regular work on the bench and shared what he learned from his time in office and how it informs his work today.h

Chief judges are elected to two-year terms by the rest of the bench. They are responsible for court administration, including personnel decisions, budget presentations and interacting with other courts and the state government, in addition to managing their own cases and chamber staff.
