Georgia Court of Appeals scrutinized the legality of the Fulton County’s 2016 property tax assessments on Wednesday when plaintiff homeowners asked Presiding Judge Stephen Dillard, Judge Trea Pipkin and Judge Brian Rickman to reconsider denial of class certification.

Members of the proposed class argued their property taxes were calculated using data from their 2015 sales, while those who had purchased homes in previous years, had taxes determined by Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal, or CAMA, data from 2015. As a result, the plaintiff-appellants argued they paid more in property taxes. Now, they are suing Fulton County and the cities of Alpharetta, Atlanta, Johns Creek and Roswell for a partial tax refund to the tune of “tens of millions of dollars” according to the defendant-appellees’ briefs.
