On the federal level, the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) regulates foreign “influence” over the U.S. government and its citizens through disclosure of certain activities undertaken by “foreign principals,” as well as “agents” acting on their behalf to influence lawmakers or the public. Largely, this has remained in the purview of the federal government, though this could change with Georgia Senate Bill 368 (SB368), which is currently sitting on Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk.

According to the Georgia Department of Economic Development, there are over 3,000 foreign companies and over 175,000 individuals working for companies based outside of the U.S. Further, 440 of the Fortune 500 companies have roots in Georgia, and dozens have headquarters in the Peach State, including high-profile names such as Porsche, Adidas and Kia. All of these companies (and their respective officers and employees) stand to be impacted by SB368.
