When she boarded a plane to Trinidad & Tobago in March 2020, Rachel Welch-Phillips thought, like many, that global lockdown restrictions would be short-lived.

Fast forward to 2022, and the Bird & Bird associate has now relocated there permanently with her husband and two young children, trading London for a home where her son and daughter would not have to face prejudice due to their skin colour, something she says she has routinely faced in the U.K. That includes during her legal career.
