The U.K. commercial legal industry’s top ranks and most recent trainee intakes still hail mainly from private school and professional socio-economic backgrounds, according to fresh social mobility research that shows little progress is being made by the largest firms.

Only 38.3% of partners and 40% of lawyers attended state school, according a Law.com International survey of 68 leading U.K. and U.S. law firms. This is despite the fact that 93% of the U.K. population attended state school, according to the Social Mobility Commission.
