Litigation funder Burford Capital Limited stands to score a sizable financial reward from a recent win against the Republic of Argentina in the Southern District of New York—a win that the funder insists was only made possible by its involvement.

U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska in Manhattan on March 30 granted summary judgment for the plaintiffs in a pair of long-running breach of contract lawsuits against Argentina, clearing the way for total damages that could top $5 billion.
