A group of prominent media lawyers has said the Law Society has “succumbed to media and political pressure” and “advanced a one-sided and misleading account of the issues” over SLAPPs (strategic litigation against public participation).

In its letter to the Law Society, sent on October 27, the Society of Media Lawyers writes that it is “concerned that the narrative advanced by certain elements in the media and by pressure groups is a false one, which grossly exaggerates the problem, and unfairly singles out media lawyers for criticism”.
