A retired Canadian appeals court judge who was facing a second murder trial for allegedly killing his wife in 2009 pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday, ending a tumultuous 15-year legal battle.

Jacques Delisle, the 88-year-old former Quebec Court of Appeal judge, was ordered to spend one more day in prison but was released later in the afternoon, according to media reports.
