Stephen Barnett , emeritus professor at UC-Berkeley School of Law, died Tuesday after suffering cardiac arrest on Oct. 2. He was 73.

As an expert on, among other things, the state Supreme Court, Barnett was a fierce and frequent critic of court policies and practices. The State Bar was another favorite target; he sued it multiple times and also ran, unsuccessfully, for a seat on its Board of Governors.
