SAN FRANCISCO — When the going gets tough in San Francisco budget battles, the tough get creative. At least Public Defender Jeff Adachi does.
Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office has rejected Adachi’s seven requests over the past year to fill vacancies created by staff leaving or retiring. There’s no money in the public defender’s budget to pay for them, Newsom spokesman Nathan Ballard said Tuesday.
