SAN FRANCISCO — Howard University law professor Frank Wu, picked Tuesday to become the next dean and chancellor of Hastings College of the Law, hopes to lead the San Francisco school into a new phase of fundraising when he takes over July 1.

Wu was selected after a unanimous vote by the board of directors in closed session Tuesday morning. He replaces Nell Jessup Newton, who resigned last spring to become dean at Indiana’s Notre Dame Law School.
