SAN FRANCISCO — The Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals today overturned the hard-won conviction of a former McAfee Inc. executive whose prosecution marked one of a precious few brought in recent years against high-level players in the Northern District.

The Ninth Circuit panel ordered Prabhat Goyal acquitted on all charges. The order, and a concurring opinion by Chief Judge Alex Kozinski that lambasts prosecutors for overreaching, come as the Northern District is aiming to ramp up white-collar prosecutions. This morning, U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag vowed to aggressively pursue financial fraud and warned that indictments against alleged fraudsters are coming.
