SAN FRANCISCO — William Coats embraces change. Since 2001, the patent litigator has switched law firms four times, landing most recently as managing partner of Kaye Scholer’s Silicon Valley office. Coats, whose clients have included Lucasfilm and Pioneer Electronics Inc., admits that his path isn’t for everyone. But he encourages colleagues to take chances, too.
“It’s exciting. It’s scary. It’s challenging,” Coats said. “And you can focus your practice in different ways and be a different kind of person.”
