SACRAMENTO Members of a newly formed group charged with analyzing the judiciary’s compliance with the landmark Trial Court Funding Act met for the first time Tuesday and quickly struggled to define their mission.
The 10 members of the Trial Court Funding Workgroup, appointed by Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye and Governor Jerry Brown, appealed to the state’s finance director for more specifics on what they should measure or which problems they should address. But Ana Matosantos was reluctant to offer more details, saying the judiciary should devise its own standards for assessing compliance with the 58-page law best known for shifting court funding from counties to state.
