SAN FRANCISCO — Lawyers at Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein filed a proposed class action against Hewlett-Packard Co. on Thursday, alleging the company misclassifies thousands of its technical support employees as exempt from overtime laws.

The name plaintiff in the case, Eric Benedict, allegedly worked more than full time as a technical support staffer in Cupertino from 2011-12, but was denied overtime pay, meal and rest breaks and accurate wage statements because the company wrongly classified him under the administrative exemption of state and federal employment laws.
