Eugene Crew, a name partner at what was once Townsend and Townsend and Crew and a prominent San Francisco antitrust attorney known for going after Microsoft, died Thursday at the age of 82.
Crew spent five decades practicing antitrust law on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants and was tapped for a number of high-profile cases: In the 1990s, the antitrust division of the Department of Justice retained him for cases against NASDAQ and General Electric, and his 2003 coordinated class action win against Microsoft netted $1.1 billion in vouchers for Californians to buy any manufacturer's products — not to mention $33 million in fees for his firm.
