Michelle Friedland and John Owens have a lot in common. Both were star students at Stanford Law School and clerked at the U.S. Supreme Court. Now partners at Munger, Tolles & Olson, they’ve won admiration not only from colleagues but even some adversaries. On Aug. 1, each was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Now the two are facing a similar risk. Each is facing a potentially drawn-out confirmation process, and that can be especially disruptive for lawyers in private practice.
