SAN JOSE — Electronics giants like Apple and Sony have long paid to license a family of microprocessor patents for use in their products. But HTC Corp. held out.

After years of feuding, patent holders Technology Properties Limited and Patriot Scientific Corp. made their case to a jury on Monday, accusing HTC of infringing the companies’ intellectual property with many smartphones.
