Traditionally, family law has not been a practice embraced by large law firms, perhaps because firms think there’s more money elsewhere, or because this area of big law isn’t particularly high-profile. But a series of recent divorce cases could encourage more Big Law involvement in breakup proceedings.
For one thing, depending on the case, a big paycheck can be involved. A boutique firm in Beverly Hills (location is key) has been bragging about a judge’s recent award of $1 million in legal fees. The firm says it’s one of the largest granted in a divorce case prior to trial, according to a story in The National Law Journal. Steven Knowles and Michael Collum, who founded Knowles Collum last year, represented the wife of a Beverly Hills real estate investor.
