The New Jersey Supreme Court has agreed to hear an unusual dispute between avowed owners of beachfront property who want to build on it and a town that claims it acquired the land by inverse condemnation almost half a century ago.

Certification was granted Nov. 10 in Klumpp v. Borough Avalon , A-2963, and organizations representing builders, property owners and title companies have joined the fray, asking the Court to reverse lower-court rulings in favor of the borough.
