In an accompanying editorial this week, and in previous editorials, this board has lamented Gov. Chris Christie’s decision to deny Justice John Wallace Jr. tenure on the state Supreme Court, an unprecedented move that has exposed the judiciary to political influences never before experienced.

That was over two years ago. Two other sitting justices have retired since then, and the state Senate has yet to confirm the replacements. Before that, the Senate engaged in its own unprecedented act by rejecting two Supreme Court nominees, requiring the governor to nominate two others, whose nominations appear to be in perpetual limbo. Enough already.
