A $4 million jury award for a man savagely beaten outside a Washington nightclub is at the center of a rare court fight over fees between attorneys who represented the plaintiff.

Richmond, Va.-based solo practitioner Douglas Lines filed suit last fall in Chesterfield County, Va., Circuit Court against Patrick Regan of Washington’s Regan Zambri & Long and other attorneys who represented the victim. Lines claims that they failed to pay him for work he did on the client’s behalf during the case’s early stages.
