The former administrator of Bell, Calif., who pleaded no contest last week to embezzlement, plans to seek reconsideration of a California appellate ruling that the city is not required to pay for his legal defense.

Against a suit originally brought by California’s attorney general, Robert Rizzo sought a declaratory ruling that, under his 1996 employment contract, the city was obligated to provide him with a legal defense in both the various civil and criminal actions brought against him.
