Brooks R. Burdette, a litigation partner at Schulte Roth & Zabel, died on May 13. He was 47.
A native of Hogansville, Ga., he earned his bachelor's degree from Wofford College and his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1986. He was admitted to practice in New York in 1986.
Mr. Burdette began his legal career as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore. In 1993, he joined Schulte Roth & Zabel and was made partner in 1996.
As a Schulte Roth partner, Mr. Burdette was in charge of pro bono matters. He played a key role in the landmark case of McWaters v. the Federal Emergency Management Agency, 05-5488, a 2005 New Orleans federal court action that successfully challenged the eviction from temporary housing of families left homeless after Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Burdette is survived by his fiancée, Corine Hegland, his parents and a sister.
