Sean Coffey, one of five Democratic candidates for attorney general, said yesterday he would pump an additional $1 million of his own money into his campaign. (See his announcement.) That will be in addition to the $2.15 million he already has contributed. He has raised nearly $4.5 million since October. Added to the $2.9 million on hand he reported last week to the state Board of Elections, the latest $1 million donation will enable Mr. Coffey to nearly even the playing field with Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, who reported $4.1 million last week.
Mr. Coffey’s personal contributions and those of State Senator Eric Schneiderman, who gave $305,000 to his war chest, prompted Ms. Rice’s campaign last week to call for her opponents to release their federal tax returns. According to her tax return, which she released, Ms. Rice had an adjusted gross income of $152,923 last year.
