Organized bar groups will put their weight behind the recognition of same-sex marriage in New York as representatives of 18 groups are scheduled to gather this morning at the New York City Bar to argue that treating straight and gay couples differently is fundamentally unfair.

Sponsors of the event say they want to emphasize that the legal impediments faced by same-sex couples should overcome moral or religious objections to homosexual unions.
