Law firms are being hit with significantly more malpractice claims this year than they were in 2010, according to a new survey of insurers specializing in legal malpractice coverage. The sputtering economy and a sagging real estate market are the main factors.
The survey by insurer Ames & Gough shows that the volume of malpractice claims to one major insurer was up by between 11 percent and 20 percent in the first six months of the year and had increased by 6 percent to 10 percent at three others. Two other insurers surveyed said that their claims have remained stable.
