Twenty-five years ago a paralegal had an IBM Selectric typewriter on his or her desk. Then, in the early ’80s, some were blessed with a Wang system. In the mid-1980s came the IBM computer with the black screen and green letters. It was like something from “Star Trek,” and it took up half the desk but that was OK because your work took half the time. Corel WordPerfect was all the rage and creating documents was fast; correcting mistakes even faster. The only downside was the new technology gave lawyers license to make endless edits. Court filings had to be walked to the courthouse and filed in person before 4 p.m. Documents were stored in boxes and reviewed one page at a time. Paper cuts were a common workplace hazard. Ah, the good old days!
Fast forward to today … the technology changes so quickly we can’t even discuss last year’s technology. We’re all familiar with the old way of doings things — let’s look at some of today’s coolest software designed to save paralegals’ time. These software programs can save you time and your firm money.
