Just when it seemed that former state Sen. Vincent Fumo’s corruption case was getting ready to fade into the background, word came that there just might be a full-fledged appeal.

Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that they are seeking permission from Solicitor General Elena Kagan to appeal the 55-month prison term imposed on Fumo, and that, for now, they are merely filing a “protective” notice of appeal.
