Environmental lawyers across Pennsylvania commended the 137-page report issued Friday by Gov. Tom Corbett’s Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission but said the document is merely a jumping off point for what is likely to become a very complicated set of statewide environmental issues.
While the commission’s support of pooling as well as its recommendations that impact fees be limited to areas in which the shale is located have so far made the most headlines since the document’s release, state environmental lawyers said the report also laid the tentative foundation for significant environmental regulation and legislation in the future.
