In upholding the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s award of a Category 3 gaming license to Woodlands Fayette, some justices of the state Supreme Court addressed the board’s practices and an investigating grand jury’s report questioning the board’s operations.
Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille authored the majority opinion in Mason-Dixon Resorts v. Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board , in which an applicant that sought to build a casino in a hotel near Gettysburg, Pa., challenged the viability of the winning applicant and the board’s processes in reviewing the applications and subsequent requests by Mason-Dixon Resorts for reconsideration.
