In 2000 Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis sought to reinvent itself. The 250-lawyer Philadelphia firm, known mainly for litigation, wanted to expand its corporate department and its geographical reach. Like so many firms, it wanted to be bigger and better. So in the first half of 2000, Schnader acquired about 100 lawyers, more than 50 of whom were partners. Suddenly, the firm was a player. At least for a few months.
